[ While others have been exploring the ship, Jiaoqiu has largely stuck to the mess hall. Eventually, he will get to the rest of the ship -- but for now, his primary interest lays here, in the dizzying myriad of food from cultures completely unknown to him.
Some of the food is familiar, and some of the dishes prove that even in another universe, basic staples like roast meat and baked grain dough are popular. But then there are things completely new to him, ingredients like spiked lotus that he has never heard of before. And indeed, when he sits down to try his own portion of it, he can smell that someone close to him is eating the same thing. And then--
He can see.
It's so disorienting that Jiaoqiu freezes. But it's not his vision. He sees strange beings of metal and animal both, their metallic faces somehow liquid enough that they stretch and move like skin. He barely listens to their words, so taken off guard by the fact that his eyes are working.
And then everything goes dark again.
It takes Jiaoqiu a second to realize what has happened: the Hosts mentioned the possibility of sharing thoughts when eating the food, as was custom in a local culture. Clearly, he has just witnessed someone's thoughts, or memories. He engages his earpiece and attached camera, getting it to describe everyone around him. When it describes the person across from him as a tall, mechanical being, Jiaoqiu can only assume the thought came from him. ]
I'm sorry to intrude, but-- I think I just witnessed your memory. A conversation about honor?
